Even couples require an appropriate travel insurance policy when in Paris

February 3rd, 2012

While France's capital has so much to offer all year round, romantics may wish to spend Valentine's Day in the stunning City of Light.

Situated on the river Seine in the north of France, Paris is the largest city in the country and attracts 28 million tourists - and 42 million to the surrounding suburbs - per year.

Not fussed by the cliche, couples may wish to indulge in spending time at one of the most recognisable landmarks in the world - the Eiffel Tower.

The parks surrounding the Eiffel Tower are often a popular destination for lunchtime picnics, while also providing the perfect spot to view the Tower's dazzling light show at night.

Along with love and romance, fashion and beauty also forms a large part of the culture in Paris and is home to some of the world's most luxurious brands, including Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent and L'Oreal - many of which can be found along the Avenue des Champs-Elysees.

Visitors may also wish to take a taxi to take the somewhat dangerous drive around the Arc de Triomphe, where the eight lanes of traffic making car accidents a common occurrence.

Other cultural icons to visit in February include the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum and Moulin Rouge, which are all easily accessible thanks to Paris' rail network.

Considered to be one of the greenest and most liveable cities in Europe, a large part of the Paris is also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

While the world's most visited city is a relatively safe tourist destination, it is wise to be protected by appropriate travel insurance when travelling throughout Europe.

Personal liability and medical expenses can be covered by a basic policy, which is highly advisable for even the most careful of travellers.
