Slightly close to home is the famous powder of Niseko, Japan, which is a great place to go off-piste. According to National Geographic, an average of 590 inches of snow falls on Mount Niseko Annupuri, making it a great destination for anyone who loves fresh powder.

If you're keen to pack your bags for North America, it is easy to overlook the charm of eastern US and Canada for the famous Rocky Mountains, but you might want to think twice about passing up a visit to Mont Tremblant.

This Canadian resort is nestled in the French-speaking province of Quebec and is entirely free of cars, which means that you can explore on foot with ease. While you will want to bundle up as you battle the Canadian elements, you'll find enclosed gondolas and well-groomed trails make this a ski destination well worth visiting.
