Ski insurance for European Alpine trip

February 21st, 2012

If you love to hit the slopes, the so-called "great snow" in the Alps this year could be welcome news.

Speaking to Britain's The Independent, Xavier Schouller of Peak Retreats - a French ski organisation - explained that recent snowfall means that end-of-season ski packages are selling out quickly.

Easter is a popular time of year to take a northern hemisphere ski getaway - but with many British and European school holidays coinciding with the long weekend, resorts can book up quickly.

If you have a more flexible schedule, it might be better to time your ski break to the week after Easter, as availability could improve - and you might even find a cheaper deal, as this is the end of the winter season.

Whether you choose to take advantage of end-of-season snowfall in Europe or wait for the mercury to drop so you can jet across the Tasman and experience the great ski resorts in New Zealand, it is important to ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance cover in place before you set off on your outdoor adventure.

Skiing or snowboarding can be a great way to spend an adrenaline-fuelled holiday - but these types of trips come with a number of unique considerations.

In addition to the risk of injuring yourself on the slopes - and possibly requiring medical treatment in a foreign country - you are also at the mercy of the elements. This means that you will want to ensure you are covered for any weather-related delays, including unexpected heavy snowfall in your resort that prevents you from making your travel connections.

It is a wise idea to shop around for travel insurance that meets the requirements of your group and your trip - taking a few minutes to check whether your equipment and medical costs are covered will let you enjoy your winter break with confidence.
