The right travel insurance policy can help protect you and your possessions while you enjoy the attractions of Las Vegas

February 22nd, 2012

Whether you want to experience the casino lifestyle depicted by Ocean's Eleven, sing along to the soundtrack of one of Elvis Presley's best movies or visit many of the locations of the James Bond classic Diamonds Are Forever, then a visit to Las Vegas is essential.

Considered by many as the ultimate escape, Las Vegas is renowned as a major resort city for gambling, shopping and fine dining.

The recognisable "Las Vegas Strip" is the 6.8-kilometre stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard that houses, among other attractions, 19 of the world's 25 largest hotels according to room count and the contrasting architecture of each building helps to give the Strip its iconic appearance.

The unique aesthetics of the pyramid-shaped Luxor, the six towers of Caesars Palace and the rollercoaster of the New York-New York are just some of the sites tourists can witness while travelling down the Strip.

While the Bellagio Hotel and Casino is a common destination for many visitors to Las Vegas, the site is known just as much for its poker tables as it is the water fountains that feature at the front of the building.

The Fountains of Bellagio is a choreographed water feature that sits in the hotel's 3.6-hectare manmade lake. Performances are set to lights and music, with the soundtrack including songs by Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

The show takes place every 30 minutes in the afternoons and early evenings - including every 15 minutes from 20:00 to midnight - and some of the fountain nozzles can spray water into the air as high as 140 metres.

Las Vegas' subtropical desert climate means that city enjoys an average of 300 sun-filled days per year and the cooler season is short; so tourists are left with plenty of fine days to explore the city's other attractions, including the Dig This adult-sized playground, the award-winning Chapel of the Flowers and the recently opened Mob Museum.

As one of the most popular destinations in the US, millions of tourists descend on one city at the same time so choosing the right travel insurance policy is essential, protecting both you and your possessions while you are away.
